Most luger holsters are made of leather, steel buckles/studs and linen thred. On a few there are brass studs. This holster, however, has a constituent that differs from nearly all other luger holsters. What is that material or holster piece and when was this holster manufactured?

Your holster appears to have the woven fabric lifting strap which were employed as field repairs in 1917 and 1918.

Yes, this holster has the course woven fabric lifting strap but on inspection it looks for all purposes to be original to the holster and not a fields repair. I don't own the holster but the owner and I looked it over and it looks original. Of course, it might be a replacement but I will look closer next time I see it. The holster is a black-dyed 1915 date and otherwise a standard WW1 P08 holster.

I had not read about or seen these cloth lifting
straps. Thanks for a good quiz and a good lesson.
I had to show the better half the lifting strap, she just rolled her eyes, could'nt believe guy's would do that. [img]smile.gif[/img]

I have run across a couple of these over the years, last time was at MAX 2 years ago. And read somehwere (Can't remember where) that it was a field repair. They are very uncommon.
