luger grips

hello members. A little while ago I had a post about 1940 luger in mint condition my problem was ugly pearl grips.Was lucky enough to get wood original grips in very good condition .After I compare these to ones on S 42 they are much thicker.So my question is if I send them for rechekering are they going to loose collectible value and where do I send them to thanks for any responds Chris69

Chris, where are they thicker? IF at the front and rear edges (where they meet the frame) they are current variation repos. Hugh Clark on our forum is a master Grip refurber. He has done MANY pairs of grips for me and he can make them look brand new. His email is hhclark@academicplanet.com He is the only guy that works on my Luger grips, he is simply the best!

Hi Thor and everyody. Ilove this forum.thanks for super fast respond. BY saying "they are thicker " I meant they look like they have more "meat"on them.They fit the gun perfectly.Of course Iam talking a "hair". It is hard to describe but they look like they are more oval. perhaps I will send some pictures that will help.Iwould like to repeat my question. Are they going to loose they character and collectible value .thanks again chris

I think I would leave them alone if you are sure they are original. I think Hugh can speak on grip thickness way better than me, or some of the collectors to see if this is an anomaly or not.

if you feel the grips are original to the gun and they look good, then I would not bother to have them recheckered. Recheckering would cost about $40-60 depending on who you have do them and not including postage. Then there is the possibility of them being lost in the mail. In my humble opinion, I don't believe that recheckering, in your case, would diminish the value of the gun or even enhance it. Be happy, it sounds like you got a nice Luger. So put the money in the bank for the purchase of your next Luger. Your doing just fine.

Hello forum!this is the web site You can see grips .Just a little explanation.You can see some spots [oil?]but in real they look much better.Now,onthe pic#1 Youcan see mint luger on the left[Iam not sure if You can notice little difference in thickness comparing to S42. Right by the screw itis noticeble the most[little hump like]. May be it is just me You take a look and let me know.Iam still going to hunt for plastic grips they may be more proper for 1940 coded 42 "i" block .Thank you for all Your comments .Looking forvard to hear from You.Chris

Chris, the wood grips are proper for your 1940. If you are absolutely convinced your wood grips are replacement and you don't want Hugh Clark to attempt to reform them, then I suggest you try to find some original grips stamped with E/655. They should either have no numbers or the last two digits of the serial number of your Luger.

BTW, nice looking Luger!

Hi John! I really apreciate Your concern about my luger [and Iam going to choose option and discussed this on the forum].I know gun looks to good to be true .All thou Iam sure it is original.I brought this "puppy"to the very reputable gun dealer to verified it's autentity.Plese ,any members ask any question or give me Your opinions about my 1940 coded 42.
By the way we took the gun a part to check it out .You know what the guy said: Oh boy guy must got this one straight from the factory.Please respond Chris
