If this is common knowledge, sorry for the insult, but I couldn't find it anywhere I looked. I put this together during my search for numbers matching Lugers. Thought it might be helpful.
The following parts should be stamped with the full or last two digits of the serial number to be considered a “numbers matching” gun (items 1 – 13 can be verified without a tear-down): 1. Barrel Extension (Slide) – Full SN 2. Barrel – Full SN 3. Extractor 4. Forward Toggle Link 5. Frame Front – Full SN 6. Grips Inside (must remove to see) – N/A for Black Widow with “Bakelite” grips 7. Rear Toggle Link 8. Safety Catch 9. Take Down Latch 10. Trigger Bar 11. Safety Bar (must put on “SAFE” to see) 12. Trigger (Side) Plate 13. Magazine Plug – Full SN – N/A for Black Widow with “Bakelite” plugs 14. Firing Pin (must take-down to see) 15. Hold Open Latch (must take-down to see) 16. Breech Block (must take-down to see) 17. Toggle Group Rear Pin (must take-down to see) 18. Trigger (must remove trigger plate to see) |

While in general you are correct for German MILITARY Lugers, commercial Lugers and early German military Lugers are not marked the same. Nor are all axel pins serial numbered.
Military contract Lugers for other countries often have commercial style serial number markings. Thus it's important to know what variations exist. |

Doubs, I did not know that. As I said in an earlier post, I am new to Lugers, so thanks for educating me.

Welcome to the forum, J.
No worries, we all start out life knowing absolutely nothing about Lugers (or anything else, for that matter). We're glad you've decided not to keep it that way. Your research/survey indicates an inquisitive nature and attentiveness to documentation and details, so we look forward to your questions, observations, and, eventually, answers.
