ammo score!

Hello, all!

I thought I would share some pics of my latest purchase: a few boxes of vintage Luger ammo. They were a package deal from a fellow who inherited his relative's apparently extensive ammo collection. All are in decent shape with bright colors and clear markings.

The first is a partial box of RWS 9mm soft point ammo from, I believe, sometime between the world wars. The second is a full but open box of WW1 military 9mm ammo dated 1918. The third and most awesome is a box of '20s vintage BKIW .30 Luger carbine ammo that's only missing 13 rounds! Woo-hoo!

Now it wouldn't make much difference if it was missing 15 rounds would it? Then I would have a couple of rounds for my collection

Jerry, you are absolutely right. I WON'T miss a few rounds out of an already not full box. You are a pillar of this community and we all benefit from your wisdom and experience with all things leather. Thank you for all that you do.
If you are serious, I would be honored to contribute a couple of carbine rounds to your collection. I will make sure they have nice clear headstamps, as not all of them do.

Interesting set of boxes.

The WW1 1918 box is confusing. The cases are marked RM S, which is Rheinische Metallwaarenfabrik (Rheinmetall) in Sommerda. But I cannot ID the Hs. maker on the box label.

On closer examination, this box contains rounds with 3 different dates on the headstamps so it appears someone has either added rounds to make a full box or possibly refilled it with incorrect but still WW1 vintage military ammo. I will post pics of the different headstamps and a better pic of the box asap.

Finding early Luger ammo is indeed fortunate, and you have made a nice haul!
After around a hundred years it is unlikely to find totally intact examples. This post brought to mind some of the things I have done over the years...in particular I found some photos on a project I took on to help preserve one box for future generations. It looks nice in its current resting place!

I am still puzzled by the Hs. makers code on the box.
The box label mentions the cases and bullets were both made by Hs. In 1917.

I ran across a thread in the cartridge collector's forum that seems to point to the Hs. marking on the box being correct for Rheinische Metallwaarenfabrik in Sommerda. https://forum.cartridgecollectors.or...-belgium/15266
The majority of the rounds in the box are headstamped RM and 18 so they are most likely correct! Yay!
