Unit marking request

I have a question on this marking, it's on a G88 by Steyr, dated 1890. I take this as 40th Reserve Infantry Regiment, 2nd battalion, rifle # 177.

Could someone confirm, thanks.

Any way to research the unit?

Appreciate the help.

With one exception, I agree with your interpretation. The exception? It's 2nd Company and not Battalion.
