Default FFL transfer question.

I sold one of my pistols to a guy who has a FFL. He asked that I send a copy of my drivers license for his ATF records. Is this normal?

Ryan.

The buyer has to establish and enter your correct legal name and address in his acquisition records log. A legal ID would be a normal request. Your state driver's license would be adequate evidence of your name and address.

He also has to comply with state law as part of the acquisition, and this may specifically require your DL depending on the state involved.

And age...In my state, you must be 21 to have a pistol permit...

You can't be a convicted felon either...But I'm sure that will get put on drivers licenses eventually...

Yes, my FFL requires that the out of state sellers send a legible copy of valid drivers license if they don't also have a FFL, in which case they send copy of their FFL. Happens all the time when I buy on GB from non licensees.

I was offended the first time someone asked for my DL - since I had a FFL03 - but now I am used to it.

Hi Ryan. I hold an FFL. The receiving FFL has to log all acquisitions. That information includes the gun's make, model, serial number and caliber, plus the seller's name, address, and DOB (or teh seller's FFL number if applicable.)

I have bought a few guns with my C&R from members of other forums.
Both rifles and pistols.

Some never bothered to send along any ID or reciept.
Ba sign.
Not good if it turns up with an issue.

I always get that covered nowdays.
