I recently purchased my first Luger, a beautiful 1940 code 42 Mauser. I would very much like to purchase a period holster and was wondering what should I look for in as much as years and Waffenamt markings go.

Generally collectors try for the same year as the luger. A year before or a year after is fine. Germans were not to particular about matching holsters. There are many manufacturers and waffenamts. That is just the inspectors mark. Welcome to the forum. Bill
