Default Safety question

Was there ever a time when Mauser didn't use white paint in the Gesichert (safety). I know that at times the white paint is removed or wears from cleaning, but would it be safe to say that any military ww2 luger without the white would be suspicious of being a reblue? The luger that I am interested in has nice sharp lines with no areas that give a buffed out look but the absence of the whit paint in the safety bothers me.

The problem here is considering anything with the term "always". Though one would be suspect of an otherwise apparently OK luger with no white (actually it was an off white or cream color) in the safety marking area, it is possible that it did occur. The problem is there is no documentation and one would have to accept this "flaw" on faith.
