P08 commercial value and info
I am new to the luger forum. i just received a luger p08 commercial from my dad. we dont know that much about it so i hope you all can help. it does not have a date over the chamber. the barrel is 3 3/4 in.length. serial #235 on the frame and barrel. dwm on toggle. germany on right of upper. crown n on barrel and left of slide. it has an m under the serial numbers. it has the last two numbers of serial number on a lot of parts but no number on mag which is aluminum with wood base. under safety is gesichert and on the extractor is geladen. I would say the finish is 90% original finish. one small chip out uf the grips over the mag release. bore looks perfect. no pits or rust. i would like to know when it was made and some idea of the dollar value .

I'm not expert on these but since none have spoken I'll close my eyes and take a swing at it. I would guestimate, based on your description that about $700 is ball park. I'm guessing that it is chambered for .30 cal, which makes it less desireable as a shooter. Add $100 if in 9mm. But unfortunately the commercials just don't bring the dough that the others do.
How's about some pictures? Well you got what you paid for... DJU |

David, welcome to the forum. Pictures are needed to help, but DJU is about right on value; expecially if it is 90% finish.

It is .30 cal.can you tell me the date that it was made or do you need more info.also i would say it could be better than 90%.because the finish is great i am just not sure how to grade weapons.

If you provide pictures that show the full serial numbers one of these wizzards should be able to come up with a year of manufacture.
Besides we all like to look at Lugers. DJU |

David,
Your Luger is classified as a DWM Alphabet Commercial... formerly known as a 1920 commercial. It was made in late 1923. The 'm' under the serial# is part of the S#. Yours is #235m. The correct mag for it should have an unmarked wood bottom or a GERMANY stamped wood bottom. The mag tube is nickle plated tin, not aluminum.

nut58, Mike is correct about the era of your luger. If it has been a true M1908 commerical, it would have been a 9mm, without stock lug and with a 5 digit all numeric serial. Also would have been worth a thousand or more. TH
