Well, its been a while since I visited this forum. But, I wanted to get some information about a Luger I took in trade about a year or so ago. I have a link that you can look at pics of this gun and then let me know what your opinions are. What I'd like to know is:
1) Could the toggle assembly be original to the gun? Now I know common knowledge says that if anything is not numbered the same, then its a mis-match. But since it is only 10 numbers off, could this have happened at the factory? Or is there just no way. I have two mags for the gun, but as is usual, neither one matches. Anyone out there got a correct mag for my gun?? I know what the odds are, believe me. 2. Considering the overall condition and the mis-matched toggle assembly, what would be a reasonable value to place on the gun for insurance purposes. I don't intend to sell it as it is a great shooter and representative piece, but would like to have an idea of fair market value in the event anything ever happens to it, or me for that matter. 3. Is the holster period correct for the gun? Value? Any information is greatly appreciated. Hey, I might even get lucky and get a response from Mr. Still himself! If anyone would like to e-mail me directly, my address is kenglewis@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance guys and gals! ![]() |

Well tac, you don't have to be clairvoyant, just more observant. If you'll notice, right below the pic I posted, there is a Photobucket link to pics of the gun AND the holster. All ya gotta do is click on the link and VOILA! Ain't this a wonderous computer age we're livin' in?? :-)

Hi Ken -
Your Photobucket link worked just fine for me, and that is a very nice looking holster. Suggestions: You can go to www.gunbroker.com and search for Luger and see what the asking bids are for Lugers similar to yours with period correct holsters. I think you may be pleasantly surprised at what they are going for. Plus you can do a search on eBay and see what holsters like this one are going for too. Mauser720 - Ron

Thanks Ron!
I'll do that, but was hoping someone here would be able to tell me what I've got and a fair market value. I know thats an ever changing number, but I think I'm really more interested in knowing more about the gun and the holster. Ken |

Tac
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to slight you. I think you gave me a fair assessment and I wish you could see the pics in the link. I'm just looking for as much imput as I can get. The more I get the better idea I have as to what its really worth. If you'd like to drop me an e-mail, I'd be happy to send you the pics that I have. There are about 20 of them, including some nice pics of the holster and I can always take more pics if need be. Thaniks again Tac. By the way, how do you add the emoticons to your posts? Ken |

Ken,
To add the emoticons to your posts you have to use the "ADD REPLY" button rather than "Post a Quick Reply" box. That brings up a new window with lots of features like emoticons, adding images, italics, etc. Also, if you go back and edit your previous post it will bring up that same window and you can add as many "smiley faces" as you want! Cheers, Ron

Ken,
As you can see by my "signature" my collecting interests are firmly lodged in the Imperial era, so my qualifications for evaluating WWII pieces are challenged to say the least. Your Luger, although very nice, is a mis-match and it is not a factory error. Tac's assessment is probably close to the mark. The holster is also in quite good condition and clearly marked. It is contemporary with your Luger and would be appropriate for it. I am afraid I will have to yield to others with more interest and experience in holsters of its vintage but I think it is safe to say that its value is in the $200 range, possibly more. By the way, you are fortunate to have a very nice Luger that you can shoot to your heart's content without fear of destroying a valuable collector's item. Have fun! ![]()

Ken,
Mis-matched WW2 lugers generally sell for less than $1000. The ball park figure of $700-800 sounds about correct. Tom |

What is your opinion of the holster as far as a value for it? Ken |

Ken,
I agree with Ron and Tac, similar holsters have been selling on ebay for around $200+. FYI- the magazine you have pictured would have been issued with a 1940 luger. Tom |
