Default Luger 41/42

I found a Luger today (at a gun shop I dont really trust) that had a Luger for sale with a 1941 marked barrel with a 1942 receiver. It was a Byf with all matching numbers including two magazines. Looks as tho it had been refinished ----finsih almost black with black grips.... Unfortunately I dont remember the serial numbers. Since I am new at collecting Lugers what should I look out for. Thanks David

I'll be interested to see the comments you receive.

I confess I'm not familiar with the markings you refer too; a 41 marked barrel and 42 marked receiver ?

The mark on the toggle should be byf for a 1941 or 1942 pistol, with the 2 digit date on the top of the gun just behind where the barrel screws into the canon. The barrel usually just has the serial number on it.

Perhaps you could clarify what marks you're referring to and where they're located ?

Black grips can be correct, but pictures might be required to determine a refinish, unless there's some obvious clues.

How much are they asking ?

the 41 on the barrel is what caught my attention. The barrel actually had 41 on the barrel as well as the other markings s/n etc, however the receiver had 42 on it with Byf s/n and WAa. The numbers 41 and 42 were of the same size, number type. It didn't look like the 41 was added later. I hope this makes sense---I am not familiar with what the black grips if original would look like--however after research on the forum --I am alot more educated..I am pretty sure the Luger has been refinished---the bluing almost black like the grips.. Thanks all. David
