2. G. U. 4 2 : anyone have i.d. for this please?

Looking at a Luger with a friend. Stamped on front grip strap is: 2. G. U. 42. The, "42," is about half the size of the other characters. Pistol is marked BYF-42 for maker. Not everything matches, so being a, "parts gun," is not out of the question. Can anyone identify the grip strap markings?? Thanks for the help, Dennis

Garde Ulanen Regiment 2. Probably staff weapon number 42. It's a shame that it is a parts gun, how is the frame serial numbered? Is there a date over the chamber?
