Went over to my cousin's lake home about 60 miles from here. Next day we drove over to the abandoned Marble Quarry for a little shooting. I have my RC 1938 Luger (with Fraktur "S" toggle) and he had his CZ52 Czech pistol. I had my Luger in a Swedish black leather Sam Browne belt with repro Luger holster.
As usual the Luger was by far the nicer shooting gun. We passed a frozen spot on the river that flows thru the quarry. I tossed a few chunks of loose marble rock out onto the ice and we blazed away and traded guns. I wouldn't trade 10 Czech pistols for my Luger. With Russian ammo it performed perfectly with no jams. But putting 8 rounds into the magazine is asking for trouble when chambering the first round. Seven works better. We also fired at the marble cliff that is surface coated black by acid rain. I thought the bullets would knock off chunks of rock enough to expose the pure white marble underneath, but they didn't. You couldn't see any effect at all. Fun day..... |
