Post Refinishing quality

I've been offered a refinished 1916 but at a premium price !

The gun looks quite nice from the pictures but I'm concerned about how much metal may have been removed during the refinishing process.

Here's a picture of the sideplate which look a little rounded about the top left corner. The number also appears a little light, as does the number on the barrel extension. Any opinions ?

Stu, This pistol actually looks pretty good from what I can see of it. If you know it is a refinnish job I would hesitate to shell out too much for it. You don't say what a premium price is but for a re finish job I would not give more than $500.00 for this pistol. Keep your hard earned dollars in your pocket untill you come accross a real bargain. Of course all this depends on what you are going to want out of this pistol. Shooter or? If you are going to take it to the range and try to wear it out then...That would not require a premium price. I would not think enough metal been removed to compromise it's integrity if that is what you were wondering.Good luck, Jerry Burney

Hi Jerry, thanks for the comments. Yes, the premium price is more than $500, (asking $750) ! I have to say I've yet to see a presentable Luger for less than $500 though.

I suspect that physical examination of this gun will show rounded edges, which is a shame as the re-blue looks to be well done. I think I'll pass. I'd put this at about $550 - $575 dependant on the wear, as it's claimed to be all matching.
