In the above picture, either that Luger is very small or Garys hand is monsterous. Maybe we can sue the movie producer. Good movie though.

That's one of the things that is incorrect in the the movie. York really used a Colt .45.

This is from the article.

"York put the German major at the head of the column with him holding his Colt .45 to the majorÃ¢??s back."

This may be a bit off topic since it is not about Sgt. York, but I watched a movie this weekend called "The Pianist". You can see a Luger in use in one of the scenes. It shows an officer using the pistol and changing the clips after he empties the first one. The movie was really excellent. Check it out if you get a chance.

You are not kidding on that. I had heard about the scene from my cousin earlier when we went out to shoot my Luger. I had to count the number of shots. He fired 7 shots then changed it and fired once more. Sometimes Hollyweird does get it right.

John Wayne always used a belt fed Colt SAA. Never saw him reload. I guess your officer must have been operating under magazine size restrictions. Too bad.

The new Sean Connery movie that is just out ("The League of Extraordinary Gentleman") has one luger pistol in a scene.

It looks like a 6" Navy that the Dorian Gray character uses to shoot the 1st. mate that serves on Capt. Nemo's vessel...

If you blink, you will miss seeing the luger. I am not sure, but it might have been gold-plated, as well...

Movie was quite off-the-mark historically. It is set in 1899, but you have WWI type tanks, guys in uniforms that look like SS or Nazi, and many grease-gun type machine guns...

Whoever was the technical advisor probably got paid well, but needs some history lessons...

I would not want to have to prove it but I used to watch every Gary Cooper Movie that I could, and I seem to remember him as one of the larger Stars.
I always had the opinion that he was very near to the size of John Wayne.
Just what I seem to remember of the old Movies.
How many out there remember the silent movies where they had captions and played music on an old Victrola ?
I remember as a small child of five in 1930 going to tent shows of that sort.

Another miscue that one also sees quite often in movies or on TV, is someone holding prisoners with a M1911 type pistol with the hammer down. TH
