Post Mags Question

I have BYF 42 6229H, DLU pigskin holster, bakelite grips and bakelite mag. bottoms (37). The PO8 on the mags is facing away from the pin. Is my serial # supposed to have them with the pin under PO8?. The pin is above the PO8. I have stated on this collumn that my pistol has not been messed with as I have had it at least 15 years. I owe you all an apology if I have been mistaken. If I remember correctly I recieved it in trade for PO8 ammo (30+ boxes) and a navy tool. I was trading allot then and I can't be sure. It sure works perfectly and is a tack driver. I will get those small parts replaced eventually... but what about the direction of the PO8?

Hi GW!! For your black plastic bottom magazine, I think I understand your question. But just to restate the orientation, the "P" in the P.08 should be nearest the bottom of the magazine.

I got a little long winded there. The P is near the bottom of the mag. After the mag talk lately I got to looking at my mags and was turned around completely. I now trust there correct again. I need to pay more attention. Thanks Frank, G.W.

GW, you are welcome! It is easy to get confused since the aluminum bottom fxo magazines could be marked with the "P" in the P.08 either toward the bottom or away from the bottom. The later, with the "P" away from the bottom, are numbered and were used for 1941 pistols in the O, P, Q, R and S-Blocks. That is, for both Code 42 and byf Lugers. Of course, the 41 Code 42 didn't make it into the S-Block. All plastic bottom fxo mags have the orientation like yours.

Frank, I understood your [toward or away] from the bottom clearly, thanks!. Like I said , I need to pay more attention. Oh, by the way; Could I offer you a trade for your 112 degree heat in AZ for my 95 degree and 95% humidity in the pineywoods of the FL.GA. coast? LOL!
