Post What is this for?

Found attatched to the bottom of a K98 ammunition pouch, some sort of key holder?

It is just a "clip", could have been for anything. One use I could think of is holding his helmet by the strap. Possibly an MG canister for the 34 or 42. The use of the spring loaded clip is endless. I have a uniform with that style clip and the same maker mark on it (DRGM)hanging inside from a strap. I found out it was put through a slit in the interior and hung outside the uniform for a dress bayonet.

The DRGM mark does not stand for a specific manufacturer, but rather for Deutsches ReichsGebrauchsMuster.
Kinda like a "small patent", describes a protected design.

That clip is an example of the truth behing the W.W.I adage that an Infantryman is something that you hang things on.

Those were my exact same words this morning. My wife has had me on a CEN diet for three weeks. I got on the scales this AM and looked down. Now that the obstruction is gone I'm seeing things I havent seen in years.

(I have seen those on German canteen straps)
