Grip Rattle

I have a Luger that the grips are original but aren't tight and move a little. Seems the screw is the key to tightness, where the grip hits it, correct? What can I do to tighten them up? Thanks.......................Bruce

Several options. Try a plastic washer under the grip, if you want go to a hardware store in the plumbing section, lots of different washers there otherwise use a razor blade and trim a piece of plastic to fit, milk jugs are thin and you can do enough layers to snug it down. Don't overtighten, grips will crack.

I tried something similar to that on the little lip that the grip has that the screw grabs. Seems there isn't enough of a lip there, or somewhere else on the grip is not doing its job to hold tight. Is there anything at the top of the grip responsible for holding? Thanks..............Bruce

Hi,

Yes, The top end may need some additional backing. These grips can dry out a bit over time and leave a gap. I use modified VOPO grips for shooting and keep the original grips (that have the same problem and are numbered to the gun) safe.

I bought other grips when I got the gun 2 yrs ago, but since it is a complete setup with mags and everything matching I decided not to shoot it at all. Just was thinking about the grips when I read a post earlier and it made me ask. Thanks...................Bruce

Rather than plastic, some of us have had good success in tightening up grips by using a neoprene rubber o-ring type washer... they come in all different sizes and the rubber crushes under the screw to take up any slack.

They also don't show...

any decent hardware store or home center should carry them... just take a grip screw with you and find one whose circumference is close to that of the screw...

Whether you shoot the gun or not, a tight grip makes the gun feel better in the hand.
