Hello, nice to meet everyone. I was referred to this forum from fellow members of the K98 page.
I just traded for an all matching "G" code, S/42. it is pretty mint save for two things, it was re blued by the G.I. who brought it back in WW2, and the bore is not 100%, still a good shooter, some decent rifleing left. It even has one matching magazine, serial 8752 with a scrolled "d", any idea's on its rarity? Value doesn't matter to me really, I traded it for a 357 desert eagle which I did not really like that much, so I'm ahead in that game. I took it to an appraiser who told me because of the reblueing it was only worth about $400, otherwise in its complete state and condition, would have been about $1,300.00 in his estimation. I feel all matching, inc. one magazine is worth more, what do you folks think? |

It's worth a hell of alot more than $400. Sounds like your appraiser was a dealer/buyer. Pics would be helpful.

I just missed a S/42 "G" date pistol with perhaps 65% blueing and original holster, all matching, good bore. It went for $700. I thought that was a pretty good price, too bad I did'nt move quicker.
mowzerluvr, Did you get any accessories with it?

The reblue will affect the value much more in some peoples eyes than others.
If all the edges and markings are untouched by any buffing performed when the gun was re-finished you'd certainly get more than $400 on the auction sites, possibly up to the $700 mark. As an example; I've a nicely reblued, mainly matching, 1920 commercial, but the edges have been softened in places and the metal prep prior to blueing wasn't the best. Should someone give me $550 for it I'd be happy ! On the other hand I've a matching, Ted Green restored, 1916 Erfurt and it would take close to a grand to part me from it. Pictures would help illustrate the condition best to determine market value. |

I did not get any accesories with it Dean, it is supposed to be a vet bringback from a fella in the 101st airborne div. I am desperately trying to get capture papers for it, the edges look crisp to me, blueing was done a long time ago as it has started to show wear even on that, I will try tommorow to do some pictures and set them up.

Hi Mowzerluvr,
I've refrained from posting so far to your thread - but..... First - welcome to the Forum..!!! Second - if you need some assistance posting your pics, just e-mail them to me, OK? I'll get them set up for you... Third - just as a reference - I have VET bring back that is a "G" date as well - and was "reblued" as well. I'd like to send it to Thor someday for a proper reblue and send the holster to Jerry (lugerholsterrepair) for his magic touch. I bought this Luger for my Dad when I was 18 - and I paid $600 way back then (I'm pretty old now ![]() Also - can you PM me where you are in NH? I'm your neighbor... Welcome!!! ![]() Best to you - and welcome to the LugerForum!! |

Mowzerluvr, Your spelling of Mauser, reminds me of a few ads in the SGN where folks have listed them as "Mousers". I guess that these guys are our kind of "Kats". TH

John D. thanks, unless I set up a site to have my pics veiwed at I may certainly use your option, I am in Manchester btw.
Lugerdoc, I hear ya, I had to come up with something clever as I was almost sure "mauserlover" may have been already in use..lol. So far, no-go on the capture papers, I guess two things hold me back, the guy is hard to reach and he didn't want to part with them to the guy I got the Luger from. |
