I'm puzzled about statistics regarding 1918 Erfurt Luger production. Page 15 of Jan Still's "Imperial Lugers (1991)" is a table detailing reported Luger serial number data. The reported serial# range of 1918 Erfurts is 304-7538t. However, the adjacent column of letter suffixes reported indicates "less than three" reports of u suffix numbers.
Am I misunderstanding something here? Is there some way to reconcile this discrepancy, is there any way to find out what the serial# of the (implied) u suffix Luger or Lugers might be? Can anyone here report 1918 Erfurt Lugers with u suffix serial numbers? --Dwight |

Dwight,
* AutoMag, Vol. XXX/10-Jan.,1998, Pg.237-240 includes a 1918 chamber dated Erfurt bearing S/N 1102u. Weimar assembly completion/rework involved. * Article poses the question if these were in the Erfurt Assy. racks when WWI ended in 11/18 and are Imperial-Weimar transition pieces. * Too early in the morning to research any subsequent answers or conclusions. Respectfully, Bob |
