The "A" is a workers mark; the dots are probably used to obscure a previous marking.

interesting on the obscurration. Perhaps that grip went was used for a factory return refurbishment process at one time and they wanted to clear the old marking out. |

or it could be just an imprint from a vise or other tool.
I've never seen another mark like that, and grip numbers were not commonly obscured. I doubt it had anything to do with a factory return, grips were replaced in the field or re-used-without regard to the original numbers. JMHO. Welcome to the board.
