funky placed punch marks

I saw this nice luger, but it has had something obscured by punch marks. Can anyone tell what these are, or what they are hiding, or us this done sort of capture mark or what have you.

Possibly VOPO stamps that have been defaced. Does the Luger have any import stamps? Looks like a nice one, have any more pics to share?

Yes,
quite likely East German/Vopo markings; they had to be "deleted" before import to the US during the Cold War years- imports from the "East" were not allowed. This simple exercise got around the idiocy of the US import regs, JMHO.

Yes I'm almost sure they are defaced Vopo markings, I agree it's a shame.

Steve,

That's the only one I have, it is a 1937 s/42 with matching numbers. The guy wants over a grand for it, besides the punch marks it looks really nice. I'm just not certain it's worth what he's asking for it. It would be beautiful if it hadn't been defaced.

I am working on scaring up funds for a navy model but this looked really nice as well.

Imported Vopo lugers are usually in the $800 range; priced as shooters.

Mind there is a huge difference betwen a "Vopo Luger" and a "Navy" if I were you I would read a lot about Navy Lugers, nice original ones are rather scarce and there is a lot of fakes on the market.

Aside from the punched out VoPo stamps, this pistol undoubtedly has import marks, as well.

I agree that $800 would be my top for this pistol. Regardless of where Luger prices in general are headed, it is still considered a "shooter".
