P-08 feeding issues

I have a 1939 luger in very fine condition I bought this year that has a feeding problem. The pistol is totally cleaned and lightly oil in all the right places. I have an original mag and two after market ones. Im shooting the winchester 124 gr white box ammo. It may shoot two rounds and then the next round will either not feed at all or it will get jamb between the action and the breech. This happens with all 3 mags. It does seem to work better with the original mag than the aftermarket one ( which I dont remember the brand) I have yet to dismantal the WW2 mag. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if it is a mag problem can anyone recommend the best available brand out there. One more thought ,the shells eject perfectly. Thanks Steve

Do the mags hang unusually low in the grip? If you push up on a loaded mag. does that raise the stack, and if so does it feed better?

Thanks for responding. There is some slack, about 1/8 of an inch maybe a 1/4 inch. If I hold up the WW@ mag it does feed a little better but the aftermarket mags still dont function well. Should the mags sit real tight in the grips with no upward movement at all? Like I mention befor ,the shells do eject fine.

There should not be a lot of vertical play once the mag is inserted and "clicks" in. The mag catch may be worn, and 1/4" is totally unacceptable. It could also be the case that the aftermarkets are a crappy brand and their springs as well as that of the WWI mag are tired out. But I'd address the looseness of the mag first.

If you can, go to the range and aggressively cup the butt with your off-hand, effectively pressing up on the mag. bottom to raise the mag. to its upper limits. In that scenerio does the gun feed better?
We need to identify the brand of the aftermarket mag. too. You may end up buying a Mec-Gar, but first let's determine if the mag. catch is worn.
Extraction/ejection is probably a whole 'nuther matter.

The acceptable slack in a Luger magazine for proper function should be around 1/10 of an inch. Not much less and not much more.

Thanks everyone. I order a wolffe magazine spring and also order a mec gar mag as well. I did cup the base of the Mag and pressed it up when shooting. The original mag seemed to work alittle better but the aftermarkets ( no markings on the ) still crapped out. If it is a worn Magazine catch what should I be looking for and is it a pain to change out Thanks Steve

Tom Heller, (Lugerdoc) on our forum has them at very reasonable prices. They are easy to remove and replace. Rather than walk you through it here, go to youtube and find a video that demonstrates the process.

Also, go to the "wanted" section on the forum and state what you want. Tom will most likely see your request there.

Hi everyone, I replace the spring in the ww2 luger mag with a new wolffe spring and purchased the mec-gar luger mag and it's all good. It was an easy fix and the pistol shoots great even with my 115 gr 9mm bullets. Even though I used the Winchester white box 124 gr first. Im a happy camper. Once again thanks everyone Steve
