This is an all matching 1920 Swiss 6" with Leichtenstein proof. It came from the World of Lugers inventory.
Glad to have it. Dan http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/SwissFullLeft.jpg |

Can't see the proof well enough to make out what it is. Is it a drawn bow with arrow and a cross in the center?

Leichtenstein is a small independent
principality (161 square km!) that lies between Swizerland and Austria. |

I sure wished I could shoot it. It appears to have never been shot. I will not shoot it either.
Thanks for asking. Dan |

Sir, You have my well deserved respect and admiration for having posession of such an exemplary firearm. I'm sure you will provide it with a suitable home. Thanks for letting us see it.

What is the story on how often the Swiss arsenals refinished their Lugers? I have been told by several who collect only the Swiss that it was common practice for them to call the Lugers back in every so often and 'arsenal refinish' them and that this does not in any way lower the collectable value. I would think that after several bluings that certain stamps and features would get faint. Any thoughts on this?

Bill,
The Swiss did not mistreat their Lugers, and from what I have heard the refinish might just be to freshen up the blue and strawing. If the old blue was chemically stripped, there would be little or virtually no wear to the markings in the refinishing process. The Swiss were really into target shooting, and the book "FAUSTFEUERWAFFEN DER EIDGENOSSEN" has a picture of an 06/1920 with a Hammerli barrel and the same proof mark as on Dan's pistol. It is listed as "Selbstladepistole, Schweiz Rework". |
