I think this must be the worst example of over-buffing a Luger I've ever seen - don't know whether to laugh or cry!

In some circles this is known as a "combat carry radius" job.

The "pro" that did the buffing also re-cut the checkering on the safety to almost bleeding sharpness. What a mess.

Never buff and drink at the same time!

Please, post a link to that gun. I'm curious just what else has been done. Something of an identity crisis, combat radiused with a file, block for a removable rear sight, lanyard loop removed, bullseye grips, etc. Like I said, just curious to see what has been done to the rest of it...

I nearly purchased a Luger that had the stock lug ground off. Fortunately I came to my senses in time. After seeing the picture of the "streamlined" pistol in Post #1, my memory of the mutilated stock lug stump is less horrible.

Some idiot will buy it just because its described as a 'luger' albeit the worst I have seen to date. They even ruined a perfectly good WWI magazine!

But remember its a " LUGER ERFURT 1914 ARTILLERY GESICHERT PISTOL", you don't see dem "GESICHERT"s very often.

If it were half the price, I'd actually consider it as a shooter. But no more than half...

If that were priced at $500 I'd be all over it. Touch up the hatchet marks, a $50 salt blue job, clean up the grips with some stain and checkering, add a good adjustable rear sight, a bit of trigger work, etc, and it would be a very interesting shooter. No paper bag required.

Wow, I just looked at the rest of the pics after following the link. Hmmm...never saw one with a rib. This one looks like it runs at too low a level, so virtually useless. It is probably silver soldered on, right? Since it extends into the relief that would accommodate the front sight leaf, I wonder how the barrel would be unscrewed in the future. Guess you'd need the special wrenches for the barrel and receiver AND a torch! Somebody put a lot of work into this, to establish this bitter irony for us. "I buffed the heck out of it and it's still too roundy...better buff it some more!" I call it the Reverse Midas, or Fecal Touch.

Just looking for a standard 4" barrel 1914 DWM, 95% or so condition, to fill a hole in my collection. I would take an Erfurt, but I know most Erfurts were Artillery for this year so it would likely cost more). Nothing special, just prefer one that is "Bo" marked.

But I'm looking for bargains - I don't want to spend more than $1400-$1600 for 95-98% gun, all matching. I just missed out on one at an auction earlier this year - I bid 1400 and it went for 1450 as I recall.
