Default Unit Markings

I recently picked up a nice barrel receiver for a shooter project. The chamber is code 41. The right side has the following inscription:
E.C.C.S.A. and on the left side the letter X has been stamped after the four digit serial number. The usual eagle over numbers on the right side have been ground off.

I have never seen this before and thought it might be an East German rework. Any info would be appreciated.
