Default Luger history Shotgun News

Not sure if this has been posted. Anyway, The latest Shotgun News has the 1st of a 2 issue history on the Luger. Still learning, but I thought I noticed a couple of mistakes. Any opinions on the article?
Thanks, Bill

OK, let me ask this:. Is the 'latest issue' the once a month issue, the three times a month issue, or the color glossy 'newsstand' issue???

I get the cheapest issue [once a month] so I miss a lot of the stuff that the three times a month issue gets. And I would expect that I miss a lot of the colorful [pictorial] articles in the newsstand issue.

Could you take a look and see which issue the article appears in???

BTW: Supposedly, Ron, Ed, and a few others here have proofread the article...

It's the March 31st issue. The thicker, $5.99 glossy color issue. Good color Luger photos inside.
Thanks, Bill

Thanks! I doubt my $19.95/yr - $1.66/issue will have it.

Some articles are archived on the SGN web site (after a decent interval), but without pictures, just text.

Point out some of the mistakes; let's have some fun...

Peter geared this towards the average gun guy, so some things are fairly simplistic. I think that Ron, Jerry, Myself, Pete and a few others caught most glaring mistakes

It is a three part, the 1st part (preWW1 and through WW1) is what they call a color, perfect bound - same for 2nd part (weimar and nazi) and last part will be post war era in B&W.

There are things I disagree with in how Peter did some things, but its his article and you have to remember the slant he is going towards.

Well, in the Summer I'll check the SGN archives and read the text, if they archive it. Newsprint pictures aren't all that good anyway. Not much of a loss.

I did enjoy the article, learned more, and looking forward to the following issues.

I got my April 10th issue yesterday; no article. Nothing in the March issue either.

To reiterate, SGN has a 12 issue/year subscription [$19.95] and a 36 issue/years subscription [$34.95]. There is also a glossy newsstand edition once a month at $5.99. The Luger article is in the glossy newsstand edition.

Not intended as a criticism, but if you were going to subscribe to the cheap edition (like me) you won't see the color article pictures. Also, if you plan on reading the article on the SGN web site, the 'archived' articles are text-only, no pics.

Maybe we can pass around a pirate copy of the article...

Gentlemen,
I bought the SGN luger issue under discussion, and yes, some of the information may be a bit simplified (insofar as I am able to tell), but the photos are nice, thus far. His personal examples are very nice, out of my league to be sure, and photograph very well (color). I'm looking forward to the next issue.

Kokalis it seems is attempting to engender some more interest in the P. 08 and P. 08 collecting in the SGN's general readership. I don't expect his article to be as comprehensively researched as a truly scholarly effort, but I am finding it entertaining thus far, and 'relevant to my interests'.

I also have the issue from a while back when SGN gave the broomhandle mauser pistol (C-96) much the same treatment. Entertaining and informative to be sure, but far from 'the last word' on the subject.

Beats the hell out of the latest celebrity gossip garbage every day of the week and thrice on Sunday!
