Gents,

I picked up this magazine that is supposed to be proper for a 41 byf . I was expecting fxo on it and e/37 This does not have that. it has the black plastic bottom and a letter (e maybe?) on its back .

Is this an original magazine ? or a fake

Is this proper for a 41 byf ?

Does it have to have fxo on it to be original?

It looks original to me, however, the 'a' is weird.

I have one that was marked on the bottom xxxx and then eagle 63 or whatever and the bottom was all messed up, so I put a black base on it - there weren't ANY markings on it, no e37 or FXO etc.

That is my feeling on yours.

I do not think it is proper for a byf. The tube should be marked with the fxo, the e/37 in two places and a P.08.

Can someone explain what fxo stands for or what it is. I understood it was a subcontract for Mauser. If that the case wouldn't it make this mag proper anyway .because of the black plastic bottom.and coloring ...just a different mfg.

Just as in the case of DWM and there crescent punch mark and Erfurt rectangular shape punch mark on there magazines Please I need the experts help here

"fxo" is the WW-II German concealment code for Haenel Schmeisser, the manufacturer of these welded and milled magazines.

These were the highest quality magazines made for Lugers, and generally function quite well. Your magazine looks almost new.

This one would be period correct for your Luger. i don't think anyone else had the tooling for producing these magazines, so it isn't a "fake". It most likely came from the Haenel factory in Suhl Germany.

After WW-II, the Haenel factory was taken over by the Russians and East Germany, where they continued to produce these milled magazines.

Military accepted magazines should have the concealment code, along with a Waffenamt inspector's stamp, like the Eagle/37 stamp generally seen on these magazines .

The VoPo (East German) made magazines have a distinctive stamping on them too, which this one doesn't have.

So, perhaps this one was sold commercially? I've not seen that "a" stamping in a Haenel Schmeisser magazine.....

There are magazine experts that frequent this forum. Perhaps they've seen something like this.

I would still say it's an earlier one with a new base.

Another fxo magazine with the "a" on the back. This mag has a alu button without numbers. Maybe the a represent a replacement mag.
