I would have started running LONG before it got that bad!!..It really amazes me at what folks will pay for these types of Lugers/luger parts. Some of them really bring way more than I would have guessed....unless there is a shill buyer.

What's the likelihood of this sale going bad? For someone purchasing in the US? I mean really it is a complete firearm. At least it doesn't look to be loaded. I could just imagine some agent X-raying packages and seeing this and next thing you know the buyer is getting a visit from the DOJ and a SWAT team. Or is my tinfoil hat on to tight?

Looks like it has petrified socks stuck to it in some places. I guess everyone that stores their guns in old sweatsocks aren't doing themselves any favors!

"Preparation H" also has wonderful rejuvenating properties according to the advertising. Perhaps the buyer could use a bit of that product.

This is clearly a "dug" Luger. People in Europe, especially the former Eastern Block have made an industry of locating and digging battlefield relics, as they seem to hold some fascination for some collectors.

In the U.S., people emphasize on "original", "matching", "high condition',,,,, the desire is LUXURY. That's not the case for many places. In places like Russia, China, etc, if emphasizing on those, people collect NOTHING. But, there is some interest on C&R (much smaller than the U.S.), some people are willing to pay money, and play those LEGALLY. Then, there is a market. And, if viewing from another angle, items digged out of earth of Stalingrad, Kursk, Odessa, Shanghai, etc, etc do have some special meaning. Of course, none of those will be "restored". What's the purpose of doing that.

Items like pistol wood stock, holsters are hot. Those are international items.

The problem with some of these "Battlefield" dug items is your taking someones word that it was dug from the "Battle of the Bulge", when it could have came from the "Battle of the Bottle". - Someones Wife throwing their Luger in the Lake 60yrs ago because they came home drunk one too many times.

That's right. In the U.S., it's wrong context. Where that rust came from is by words. Each market has its own unique favorite story though. I noticed what's hot here being SS, capture paper, ,,,,or, combination of SS and capture paper, death head, Göring's gun etc.

Obviously, this one was in some kind of cloth bag when it was buried or thrown in a lake... A very unusual rust pattern over the toggle in this photo... You can actually see the weave of the cloth that covered this specimen.

Then again... all matching, FXO magazine included, unfired since about 1944... must be worth at least $2000 on the collector market eh?
