Default Acronyms

I have been playing moderator for a number of years and I have noticed we seem to have attracted new blood from various walks of life

I also noticed that they used acronyms that I have never seen seen (and On the CMP forum that i have been frequenting); and perhaps these are obvious to y'all

OP (original poster)
LGS (local gun shop)
Gunshow locations that are obvious to those who go to them; OGCA, Old Western, show of shows aka as SOS

Now, I may not be the smartest guy in the group, nor the most wordly, but I read english pretty well and I am not sure if it is folks being so used to these terms or they are used to cell phone usage

It seems to me that this began with texting and has now moved into all forms of typed comunication. I have also seen it in several other forums/chats.

In some cases it could be old blood! Nowadays, if you want to stay in touch with your kids and grandkids, being functional in texting is useful. It's spilling over to the boards.

I use to pull OP if not LP, right after KP and then off to CQ and later, duty as SDO by the CDR's SOP in case a VIP from the IG arrived. Blame the military, they started it all.

Acronyms tend to become a language of their own that excludes others outside the group and discourages newcomers. I tend to dislike them.
IMHO

Lon, yes I have used a site like it. That site is pretty hard to find anything? But I have found the collector sites have their own letters.

WOW! That goes back a ways! When I was a young E-4 in the Navy there were three movies the Navy forbad us Enlisted to see. We, being enlisted, were obviously not intellectually equipped to handle their message. They were; "Seven Days in May", "Failsafe", and "Dr. Strangelove." Needless to say I, and all the rebellious snuffies I hung out with, knew the dialogue to each one by heart.

OMG and LOL, and who can forget LSMFT?

I agree Ed, I also think the collector sites may be the better way to go. There seems to be so many acronyms in use and the web site I provided has such a large number in their data base that it can take more time to locate a specific one than one wants to spend, and like you said with cell phone texting so popular new ones are added every day.
