Default Help with 42 Mauser

Does anyone know why there would be red paint on three different locations on my 42 Mauser. Both Mag pulls are painted red, I'm assuming some creative gent in the distant past made a bad choice, but would like to ask before I look to put it up for sale...thanks..

Many possibilities. As a training aid to denote mags carrying live ammo.

Or to differenciate magazines carrying a specific load or that are particularly reliable/unreliable.

Owners do crazy things to their property.
