Default Found my keeper - byf 41

I've posted on here over the years, asking questions about Lugers I was interested in buying. I've bid on a lot of auctions and combed over a lot of estates, and I think my efforts (and many of the answers received here) have finally paid off. See pics below of a Luger rig I picked up from an estate a few weeks back. The pistol is a byf 41 with all matching parts that I can see, including the numbered grips. The holster is CEY 42 and is incredible condition. I paid the princely sum of $1127 for all of it. Any thoughts?

Nice rig at a great price. Congratulations! That holster itself is a great find. What is the letter suffix?

This would be the script letter below the serial number on the pistol's frame.

OK, gotcha...I can't see one. Does that ever happen? And what is the significance of the mark?

The suffix is part of the serial number. They ran in blocks of 10,000. The first 10,000 having no suffix, the second 10,000 would start with the serial number followed by "a" and so on through the letter "x" .

Yours without the suffix would be late in 1941 and would explain the fxo black bottom mag.

Thanks Bob. By your explanation, if it has no suffix wouldn't that mean it was early 41 instead of late?

Luger's did not start the new year with a new batch of serial numbers. They just continued on from the previous block. 1941 I believe started in the "n" block and ended in the "a" block. (going by Jan Still's book)

Blockhead,

Congratulations on a great first Luger! And I'll bet you a pint it won't be your last; these things are contagious. It happened to me.

Congratulations on the great buy...

I'm still looking for my 41 byf! It's one that I'm missing.
