pepe, 42 byf Luger serial number 1069m is part of the Portuguese Contract. Some were parkerized, others remain blued. Congratulations!! Looking forward to see the potos.

From Portugal i only knew the early lugers MPand Navy and later the mauser GNR 7,65

pepe, there were around 5,000 to 5,500 Lugers that were part of the Portuguese Contract. These were completed in late 1942 and early 1943. These were called Model 1943 or M43. It looks like yours is an all blue version.

I have 2363m which is lightly parkerized and had 1002m which was heavely parkerized.

Hi Pepe,

I'm jumping in simply because you may know the word, "empabonado", it is a dull, chemical coatng to protect metal. On military guins, it is usually a gray/green color.

Hello,

I bought a complete rig of such a 943 portuguese luger
for 750.- euros several weeks ago.

I think 1200 dollars just for the gun is to much.

Simpson Ltd has a couple of of similar guns on their web site.
They are high in their prices, but give you an idea of what the high price might be.

I have seen these go for about $1500, here in the states.

Look carefully for mixed parts, very common on Portuguese Lugers as they stayed in service for so long. Look at the grips of the gun in question, they look a little to good to be original, untouched. Also the safety marking does not appear to have any white left, may not be a concern but often removed during refinishing.

I would guess this one currently would bring at least $1200 on gunbroker

the left side picture looks ok for the small chamfer that bridges the flat side to the rounded chamber area at the very top front edge of the slide/receiver

but the right side picture that same chamfer looks buffed/blended some, so I would look for other buffed clues

these 41/42 mausers usually have thin chamfer bridge areas originally, like the left ( safety ) side of this luger

the grips look like finer checkering than the original, but look much better than originals appearance to me

I like those luger´s because they where the last
produced at Mauser during the WW2, and had been
in service till the 1970´s in portgal. Good quality .....

Bill, I don't know where the 1002m is right now. I bought it from a guy in New Mexico that claimed it was all matching. It wasn't, so I sent it back. This was 5 to 10 years ago. Sorry.

pepe, I think you have the answer on price. If it is all matching (including the internal parts) I believe it is right on the edge of the acceptable price, maybe a bit on the high side. Good Luck.

In addition, most, if not all, M43 Lugers had Black Bakalite (Plastic Like) Grips.

Since you found it in Portugal, it most likely was part of the last Mauser PO8s in the 42BYF m & n suffix ranges, sold to Portugal & Bulgaria in 1943, since by then the German military was purchasing the P38 and they were still winning the war. Most of these were probably produced with the standard checkered wood grips, but as they wore out, the Porugese replaced them with their locally made black plastic grips. TH
