Does anyone have any opinions regarding the quality of Mauser InterArms luger pistols.
I am totally a luger "virgin" and am just looking for a decent "shooter" that can be had for les than $ 900.00 or so (not bank breaking...). I see a few NIB's units by Interarms advertised at the Simpson LTD web-site. Would like to get some feedback to see if the InterArms quality would be a good starting point for my luger "shooter' experience. Thanks for any info. you might share... Pete |

Pete, Most collectors keep their Mauser Parabellums new in the box, like they would a Colt commerative, for future appreciation. That makes finding a used one to shoot, difficult. I do have new ones and the remaining US stock of repair parts for them, But if I was purchasing my first shooter, I'd rather purchase one of the recently imported reworked WW1 or 2 original PO8s for half the price of a new Parabellum, due to wider availability of parts and accessories. Also, they have been thru the wars and speak to you in subtile ways. See my Updated Shooter listing in the classified. Tom h

Pete, to the best of my knowledge these are newly manufactured Mauser Lugers and are stamped according to law as Interams as the importer. These are new and not reworks. The last one I saw was going for about 800 or so. They have no collector value as they are new. Maybe someone else has more info on them.

These pistols were made in the 1970s off of machinery purchased from the Swiss. They are the last German-made Lugers that I know of. Fit and finish is excellent, and IMHO, nicer than the current stainless Lugers. I have not shot mine because it is NIB, but I may sometime.

Hello Tom,
Thanks for your info. Just wondering if any of your new Mauser Interarms units are for sale ? Let me know if you have any 6" bbl guns. Also, could you recommend some basic spare parts that I should consider buying, at the same time ? Contra Costa Collectible Firearms (in Walnut Creek, CA) is the closest FFL shop that I would use (i.e. trust) for any gun transfer. As far as I have been able to tell, the quality of the Interarms product seems to be reported as a higher quality than the S/S units from the Mitchell/AIMCO folks. I might seem a "heretic" in such a collector's forum as this, but my interest would be having fun shooting and I would assume I would have less risk finding a NIB luger "replica" rather than the real thing (understanding the Interarms would cost more...). I appreciate the history the real ones have, but if I get hooked after my first replica "luger", I might look into a collector-grade unit, then. Thanks in advance for your time and info. Pete... |

Dear Pete,
in the forum we spoke other time concerning Mauser Parabellum. The Mauser Parabellum is not a Replica, is the last Luger made by Mauser after WWII. I remeber you that Mauser has the original blue print that Mr Weiss save from destruction in 1947. The French army took under occupation the Mauser firm from 1945 to 1947 and in this period Mauser made Luger from French. (for example one of most rare LP08 is the model made by Mauser under French occupation in this period). Concerning the collectable value of Mauser parabellum, I remeber you that the commemorative model are very collectable. Mauser made commemorative model for the most important model (bulgarian, russian, swiss, P08, cartridge counter, navy, carbine and LP08). This pistol are very collectable. It is hard to find this pistol now. I have in my collection different commemorative and the quality is very good. The comercial model (29/70 model similar to 29/06 swiss model) and the (06/73 model similar to 06 model) are very common and probably, still now, not so collectable. Please let me know if you need some others information about Mauser Parabellum. Mauro Italian Luger Collector |

Pronto, Mario,
Thanks for the great info on Mauser lugers. I apologize for thinking these units, imported by Interarms, were "repro's" or "replica's". I am still looking to try to buy my 1st. Mauser, from the 1960-1970's manufacturer date. Hopefully I can find one that is still NIB. I am in a bit of shock at the market price of such 1960-1970 units; pricing, in the USA, seems to range from $ 850 to $ 1050.00 for NIB units. This is good news for all smart luger owners that picked all these up years ago fairly inexpensively. And as long as luger "newbies" such as me buy at high prices, the smart guys holding lots of these NIB units they bought years ago have their "investments" grow... I do understand that a 1960-1970 dated Mauser has no collector value yet, and may never... I plan to make my 1st. luger a range gun that I can have fun with and learn how to disassemble, clean, assemble, etc. If I get hooked on lugers, I will plan to buy a collector-value piece in the future, possibly from Ralph's place in Arizona... Again, thanks for your help... Pete |

Pete,
You may have already done this, but take a look at Simpson's Ltd, in their Luger Room under Interarms Lugers. they have about 10 listed for sale and the price does vary some. they do have a couple that are NIB for sale. I have attached their address. Marvin Simpson's Ltd. |

Dear Matt,
only the 29/70 (similar to swiss model 06/29) was made using Berna tools. The other models (06/73) were made using new tools. Mauser made an investment of 750,000 dollars at the beginning of 1970. For commemorative model (250 items for each model) special and ad hoc tools were used. Only a little information to understand the quality of these pistols: in the 1939 Mauser was able to produce 500-600 parabellum per day. During the full production in the 1969-1985 period Mauser produced 1000 Parabellum per months. Ciao Mauro |

Mauro,
I read somewhere that the frames for the 06/73 were made by the German sewing machine company Pfaff. Matt |

Pete, I believe that I've already emailed you more details, re price, models available, etc. It wouldn't hurt to shoot the new Parabellums, so long as you take care to maintain the finish and do proper cleaning. Since the price is not much higher than the new stainless lugers, I do think that the Mauser is a better investment. The only part that would be difficult to replace who be the barrel, should you wear one out, as these a long frame pistols like the Swiss and early DWMs and they weren't making a lot of 6" barrel then and I'm out of the Parabellum new barrels. Dear Matt,
I dont know this particular. Some years ago I keep some contact with Mauser firearm division to have information about Parabellum model. Mauser people explain me some aspect concerning production and in my understanding all items of pistol were produced in Mauser. In any case it is possible that some items sholud be produced by other german firm. Let me know if you have some others information. Ciao Mauro |
