Are the fxo magazines issued with Black Widow serial

numbered to the gun. I see some that had a scribed

number.

Hi,

The answer is Yes. First you have to post what you are considering a "Black Widow" Luger. From data sheets, the first Lugers with issued black plastic grips were somewhere in the byf 41 production line in about the T or U block, and then scattered throughout the rest of the byf 41 and byf 42 production. There are fxo aluminium based magazines numbered to byf 41 Lugers in the T and U blocks for sure and then scattered beyond this, although not nearly as readily found. The black plastic grips before the T block of the byf 41 production are replacements in my opinion. The fxo black plastic bases were not normally numbered, and in my opinion were both issued magazines and replacement magazines. There are a very few black plastic bases with serial numbers on them and the numbers are burned into the plastic bases. Whether these are actually pre-1945 issue is not known at this time, but is thought to be actual military issue or KU issue.

Henry, In my opinion, by observation, the numbered Black Plastic Bottomed FXO mags are from KUs and the ones with serials stamped or etched on the spine, are from the 42byfs that went to Portugal. Tom h
