Am I becoming paranoid or do others see red flags all around this one?

This will make a great companion for my Russian Contract Luger!!!

I wish he'd posted a pic of the chamber marking..."chamber is dated 1917 and has the distinctive "Totenkopf" emblem of a skull with single bone surmounted by a lazy-S"...never seen one with only one bone...

"these pistols are thought to be early SS issue guns"...Wow!!! Really rare!!!

These guys post one photo, and assume that the description will sell the pistol at $2700.

Sounds like the rare "SS Uni-Bone" variation , that was issued only to one legged SS Troopers.

Try to remember that he may actually BELIEVE all the nonsense he is spouting. Which he got from the trustworthy person who sold him the gun!

That's most likely the case. Having worked in gun shops, it's truly amazing the stories you here from people that "were told" it's a one of a kind. Or that Hitler owned this gun , until he decided to trade it for nylon stockings and toothpaste.

A guy came in with a cased set of dueling pistols that "had been brought from Europe in the 1700s by his family". They were maked "Made in Spain" and there was an owner's manual under the lining of the case. He had been "told" they were worth $5,000.00. When we pointed this out, he accused us of trying to rip him off.

David, Caution is advised. I know of at least two phony types of Tk dies out there being used to stamp otherwise nice WW1 PO8s. The originals of course had nothing to do with the later former SS, but may have been marked by certain WW1 assult troops or Weimar era Freicorps. TH

Here's another example. I bought this at a Buy & Sell joint, cheap. Because their "Gun Expert" told them that it was a knock off, and not a real Walther, because it didn't have an antler stamped on the chamber.

OK, Ricky's Gun Shop has emailed me *13 pics* of the Death's Head Luger...Here's a couple showing the chamber area...

Pics show a notched receiver, DWM toggle train sans rear sight, "51" on all exposed pieces, wood-bottom "651" mag w/"+" below the number, bluing appears very good, edges look sharp...

Now...About the skull...Since I know nothing about these, what do you Totenkopf aficionados think about this motif???

The problem -- regardless this one being a fake or not, what is supposed to be the correct appearance of this mark, and the correct apperance of the gun carrying this mark? If no comparison, there is no fake or genuine, IMO.

Trouble with a luger like this is that no matter how much you pay, or what provenence you are given, a prospective buyer in the future will most likely not want to relieve you of this piece. You will probably never get your money out of it.
