Default 1939 german 42 luger w/ certificate

Hi, I’m new here and I have this 1939 42 luger. I would like to know how much it is worth. I know absolutely nothing about guns. The story is I’m a contractor, and i was in the middle of doing a remodel on a house and i found this luger rapped up in a crown royal bag along with another ladies-style hand gun, they were way up in the rafters. The luger must have been up there for 20 or 30 years guessing by the amount of dust on the bag. The previous owners of the house were an 80 year old couple who had just died. The gun has a certificate attached to it that’s pretty wrinkled, but from what I can tell it says this (all the *'s are the letters that I can’t read): 1. I certify that I have personally examined the items of *a* *red enemy military equipment in the possession of Capt F. G. A*** that the trophy value of such items exceeds any training, service, or salvage value; that they do not include any explosives; and that the possession thereof is in conformity with the provisions of Sec. V1. Cir 155, WD, 28 May 1945, and the existing regulations of the Theater Commander. 2. The items referred to are : 1 Luger Pistol No. 6245, Signature:, Rank and Branch:, Organization:. I think the certificate is pretty nifty. The gun is fairly scratched but is still very solid. It looks like at one time the grips were a lighter color brown. I did a little research and all the parts that are noticeable to the eye have matching # 45’s except for a #10 that is on the area above the trigger guard. There is no holster or belt either. I brought it down to the gun store and they have no idea how much it’s worth and they oiled it up as well. Sorry for the lack of pictures, ill try to get some later

These days I base the price around $1000, then up or down depending on condition, rarity, accessories, etc.
I've got a 1939 on the For Sale board with holster, belt, spare mag., etc. at around $1300 and it hasn't gone anywhere yet. That will give you some idea.
I have tried to get the experienced collectors to chime in on the actual value of bring-back documents and none have quantified yet. I will usually pay a bit more for a Luger with documents, and it doesn't happen all that often.
Anyway, enjoy, and post pictures when you can!
