Default Hi just purchased my fist luger need value

Hi every one.. just picked up a luger seems to be above 90% bluing- no pitting all numbers match except the mag no history the guy has had this gun since the mid seventies no longer wanted it (failing health)
I would like to post some pics but am clueless on how to proceed
its dated 1939 model 42 (pretty common) for all ive read on the forum all the numbers ...barrel - safety- side plate all the numbers are there and match I paid $700. after he came from our local gun shop and was told the owner of the gun shop offered him $600. He called me and said (he's from Germany) I dont trust him if I wanted it he would take $700.00 - I told him it may be worth more . He was happy with the $700.00 as long as i was ok with it - I said sure and here we are - so can any one put a value on this great old piece of history - ? Even if it worth less im happy to own it
Best regards to all and thanx for your replies
Happy Halloween

I believe you can upload image files from your computer in your post by using the paperclip icon next to the smiley face icon. .jpg files are limited to a maximum size of 195.7 KB.

If you want to post links to larger images you can download your files to a free hosting site like photobucket.com, then copy and paste a link to the file you want.

A nice shooter is worth $600-$700

but pictures would be good.

I would not say a 1939 42 is that common...

See in new collectors area for stickies on picture posting.

If you paid $700 for a matching 90% gun, that's a good score!! In this market, a 90% matching '42' 1939 in the condition you described would probably bring $1100-1500 depending on who's buying. Post some pics!

If a gun shop offers $600 for a shooter, what would be the real value normaly?
Or otherwise, if a shooter is worth $800, what can a seller expect to get for this gun if he sells it to a gun shop?

Andy, here in South Alabama a dealer ( or shop) will typically only offer 40-50% of a guns value in either an out-right purchase or trade-in.
Only if a dealer knows he has a quick turnaround will he offer more.

CS, If your seller is old enough to have been in WW2, I'd certainly ask it he was issued this gun and it's history. I've met some former HJs who were teenagers manning the baracades in Berlin in the last days of the war and were never officially captured or surrendered as soldiers; just went home and buried their uniforms and ditched the Panzerfaust. From this message, combined with Mauser George's comments "nice, but fuzzy picture".... there must some pictures loaded somewhere? I searched all your posts, but I did not see any, not even the fuzzy ones....
