At a recent gun show I came across a 1938 S/42 without any military proofs or marks. Also, there are no commercial proofs.
The gun looks to retain it's original bluing and I couldn't detect where any marks were removed. If marks were removed, I'd think that it would show up in the finish, which looks to be original. All of the serial nos. seemed to be where there supposed to be and they all matched. I didn't think to record the serial no. but there was an letter associated with the sn. I have a 1938 S/42 that is original and all matching, but it has all of the normal proofs. What are the odds of a 1938 S/42 leaving the factory without proof marks? I was under the impression that all 1938 S/42 marked guns were made for the military. I would appreciate any info that you folks may care to share with me as I was thinking about buying this gun. Sorry, I didn't think to try and get photos of the gun. Thanks, barr |
