Greetings members. This forum is amazing. I never knew it existed till a friend told me about it.

Im looking for information, any information as to the value of a Lugar I got by way of my Dad , a WWII vet. He never looked up the value of it or bothered to find out anything about it.

It is a "Black Widow" Lugar. It has a stamp "byf" on top and the number 42 as well. It has the serial number "9217" all over it and even the small parts inside are stamped with "17". With the exception of some "holster" wear, its in perfect condition. It does have the bakelite grips on it as well. Which I guess makes it the Black widow version.

The holster is stamped "Dresden 1938" and is also in great shape considering its age. Just one broken belt strap on the back of it. It contains an extra clip as well as a assembly tool inside.

Can anyone tell me what it may be worth? Or for that matter, how I find out about more of its history?

I'll only comment on what the market is doing. While those were around $2500 (asking price) not all that long ago, I'd say if it is really nice, correct mags, etc, a bit over $1500 on the low side maybe up to $2000 is realistic. Lots of variables here and of course we need pictures. Just 'cuz we like to see Lugers!

Thanks fpr the quick response. Ive been trying to load pics . Got 2 of the 3 up but it wont take it which of course is the left side of the Lugar.

Any comments on the value of the holster?

The mags do not match but from what someone told me that is not unusual.

I was hoping you could tell us more of its history...How did your dad get it??? Where??? What's the story behind it...as many details as possible...

BTW: I prefer the solid aluminum base mags, whether correct or not...

Unless there is something special or rare about the holster, 'figgur about $250. That seems to be what they are really bringing.
Also, we have a holster specialist on-board, Jerry Burney, who is the only one I would ever trust for holster repair, if you are of a mind to have that done.
That is a very nice rig, one that I am sure you are proud of.

Welcome to the forum.

Your byf stands for Mauser and made in 1942 (42); and in collector parlence, it is a luger and also folks call them magazines instead of clips (although I use the term clip periodically).

Thanks for all the responses guys. This is great stuff. I wish I knew more of its history other than it was brought back from France. Dad's gone so I cant get any more info on it. I was hoping there was a way to trace back the serial numnber some way but guess thats not likely being its a military issue.

Hey Blue, there should be a letter on the front of the frame which is part of the serial number. If you could supply a picture, I could give you an idea when it was completed.

Blue, 42 byf serial number 9217g was completed about May 1942. Hope this helps!!
