I have change my Taurus 669 and german helmet M40 for Mauser C-96. I think is 1920 rework. Number is 52872, cal. 7,63 mm Mauser, refinished, rear sight: 50 - 1000 m, with original panel grips (with numbers), numbers match. Mauser C-96 is rare in Croatia and it was my chance! Front sight is cut (I must made new). Because I can't buy original 7,63 mm Mauser ammo, I must buy 7,62 mm TT ammo, but I will unload 15 % powder, also I have order wolff gunsprings extra power. Does anyone know production date???

It's commonly believed small ring appeared in 1902. 52872 should be circa 1904.
If possible, could you post a picture showing the inside of the grip panels? |

I think it should be mentioned that the marks of caliber, model (C-96) and the eagle on the left panel are not original features. They were added after the gun left the factory.
But, for a shooter it looks great! Have fun! Douglas. |

The grip panels are not factory, but since they are numbered, I'd like to see the quality of stamping.
Historically, Tito's partisan carried some C96. Yugoslavian's King was also assasinated by a C96, pre WWII. This gun was also used by Romanian Iron Guard, but I have not found a photo yet. |

It looks very nice!!! Some refinishing is evident...I like that "stick" eagle! Is it representative of any particular nationality? It is very well done...

This stick eagle is indeed a myth. Say it's a decoration people added to boost the gun.... then why didn't he/she add a Swastica. Was Weimar or 1920 particularly popular in some part of this world.

Thanks for the picture.
It's high quality. For some reason, the angle of the exterior groves does not look correct. Could be distorted pix, or grooves could be re-applied. For this s/n, the panels have full s/n. Since they're not numbered to the gun, probably replaced long time ago. C96 will bring in some fun. Enjoy! |

This type of gun is still being used somewhere in this world today.
If you guys trace the news, two photographers of Associated Press were attacked by bomb in Afghanistan on August 12, 2009 (a week ago). One guy lost one of his foot. This event was probably too small to be noticed by the public. Here is a photo took by him in Pakistan.... claimed being local anti-Taliban militia: http://pic.itiexue.net/pics/2009_8_18_31982_9831982.jpg Looks like a relatively early prewar small ring. A few more pix from the wounded photographer: http://pic.itiexue.net/pics/2009_8_18_31984_9831984.jpg http://pic.itiexue.net/pics/2009_8_18_31986_9831986.jpg http://pic.itiexue.net/pics/2009_8_18_31987_9831987.jpg |

Oops, they disabled the pictures. What's going on? Probably hate aliens seeing them, or it's my computer's problem?
I will copy the C96 related picture here. Others are modern guns, not important for a C&R site anyway ![]() From the barrel contour, thick milling slot, trigger style, direction of the lanyard ring stud, ..... it's a early prewar small ring. Probably left there by British..... |
