Where can I get a set screw for my sight?

My artillery shooter's rear sight is loose. I see a hole for a set screw that will tighten it into place. If anyone has the dimensions or good websites to recommend, I would appreciate it.

Herr Heyjerr...The front sight and the rear sight set screw are different lengths. This is a very difficult part to find.
I just happen to have one..I paid $50. for it.

I looked at my old sights in the glass, if I had it, it was free to your door. Fifty dollars for a set screw is something I will not ever understand fully.

Rick, Understand it or not.. a rare part is a rare part. In the discussion above I have heard some rediculous thoughts..jam it in there, go to the hardware store etc. If you are talking about a $3500 Artillery a 50 dollar part to complete it and bring it back to a treasured collectable is a stone bargain. Now it looks like some who have contributed here want to Bubba up their guns and gentlemen.... you are certainly welcome to go to the time, trouble and expense to do just that.
I could care less if I ever sell the one and only rear sight Artillery screw I have ever come accross. Truth be told ...I am just as well off to keep it as I may need it myself someday. I have found many parts to be extremely expensive and many to be unavailable at any price.
Now if you have a cheap shooter it might pay to just spot weld it in place...
And to be clear... the screw I have is the adjustment screw for windage with the spanner top. The set attachment screw is probably more common. It is the same for the front adjustable sight only longer.

Not knowing lugers very well, I'm wondering if this could be an aftermarket sight, or from another type of gun altogether. The number on it not only doesn't match any of the two major sets of mismatched numbers, but as was pointed out earlier, the font doesn't even match the rest of the gun.

Being mismatched, this gun is definitely just a shooter. Since I have the sight removed, I'll probably start taking it around to hardware or hobby stores to see if I can find a screw to fit into it. Being that it is not a collectible, I'm not willing to pay $50. Besides, if a genuine replacement was found I would rather it be left available for a collector who needs it.

The hard part will be sighting it. Once I have it aimed properly, I'll likely have to disassemble it partially just to get the angle on it to tighten it down.

Would you do that for a fellow poster for free? Yes, I have on many an occasion but I generally reserve this service. Since I am not a democrat I must replace these things with my own money.

I am happy to know you are available for free parts...I am sure everyone on this Forum will be pleased to hear that as well. Perhaps you would save us all some time and post whatever it is you are willing to give away so we may pick and choose...Truth is really..I am willing to bet that would be a mighty short list.

I do not share much collector interests anymore because of obivious reasons. I don't know what those reasons are. Don't let me make them up for you. Like a good poker game, your either in or your out.

I'd try a good gunsmith first. They often have oddball small screws for covering up tapped holes left when scope mounts are removed.

This sounds like the best idea yet....

Heyjerr, I have found that Ace Hardware (of all places) has a good variety of odd sized screws including metric. You might also check some machinist tool places. Take your sight there and try some of their selection. The head size may be wrong - too large - but its easy to turn down using the WECSOG method. If it works and gets a good gun back into operation when no other means are available then its good. Don't think I would resort to Bubba until all other avenues failed.

Most gunsmith screws for covering tapped holes are either 6-48 or 8-40; don't think that would work.

Since the barrel and grip screws are English rather than metric, there might be a good chance that the sight screw is also English and a gunsmith could possibly come up with a suitable replacement

H, I do have new repro LPO8 base set screws available @$10 post paid. You will have to remove the top part of your sight to install it. I also have one used original front (longer) set screw available for those who need one @$25. Rick, I'd trade this, or what you might need in this price range, for your rear sight fine tune screw if in nice condition. TH hellerarms@webtv.net
