Default Requesting Info On My Luger

Hey guys, inherited gramps old Luger. Its not in the best of shape but i've always loved this gun. I was wondering if you guys could give me some info on it such as some history, who used it, military police etc. Perhaps a rough estimate of the value, and, what ammunition would perform best in it? Thanks for any help.

Sorry, since you posted on a web hosting site, I can not look at your pictures while at work (and many other folks can't either). We prefer folks to post their pictures here on the forum for that reason.

Walmart sells Winchester 100-round bulk packs of 115gr. FMJ for small money... they have a good reputation for use in properly lubricated Luger pistols... Its all I buy.

You have a nice 1939 S/42, which by the way are hardest to find. You might not want to shoot it alot.
As I recall there were only about 38,000 of them made.

Why are they hard to find? And do you have anymore info on it? I figured it was a shooter as it doesnt look that nice, which I figured was because it is origonal.

That sounds like a lot, but take out the ones destroyed during the war, take out the ones destroyed after the war, take out the ones tossed in the ocean by GI's (US, Canadian and Brits) who thought they'd get into trouble, then take into account guns destroyed because of idiots, crime etc and there are probably 10-5% still around.... So, say 10%, that is 3,800 guns... (all a WAG btw)

So point is, some guns like the 1940 / 42 are much easier to find, as they made maybe 180,000 of them, so that leaves 18,000 of them in the USA....
