Side plate influences trigger pull

Greetingsi luger professors

I replaced the side plate on my Erfurt shooter, and suddenly the trigger pull is much longer, not firing until the trigger is virtually all the way depressed. Is this caused by a variation in the length of the small bar that comes off the side plate and projects into the trigger assembly? Somehow, this bar seems a bit shorter than the previous one. If this is indeed the cause, is it practical to somehow lengthen this bar?

Jeff,
It would be much easier to swap the bar (trigger lever), to one that is the correct length if it is too short. Also I've read that you can bend the trigger lever up, so that the trigger pull won't be so long. I've never tried this and I don't know how much it will bend before breaking.

If you go for bending..
I remember bending has not been recommended here in this forum, the lever may snap or you can mess it up seen from a safety aspect.. so the wise thing to do is probably bringing it to a gunsmith.

That said, I have a few times taken the chance of bending these. Placed them in a wrench and bended them *slightly*. Did it in a bend-test-bend-test way instead of overdoing it. Worked well to me.
Another approach, if you have several Lugers, is to swap these levers around and see if you get them all working. A work of patience for dark autumn nights

Mike et al, Original trigger levers will break before they will bend. The new repro are bendable, but too much decrease in the included angle with prevent the disconnector from clearing it to provide a second shot. TH

I was probably lucky then.. believe it was original levers I did it to.

Perhaps it was a Norwegian replacement lever that you were successful in bending.

I am with Tom on this issue... bending an original german trigger lever will result in breakage. These are hardened parts, not intended to be bent.

Jeffs- perhaps you should order a reproduction lever from Tom Heller (LugerDoc) and experiment with that... welding to add material to an original lever is also not recommended because the part is so small and the welding will change its hardness...

You should also try cleaning your disconnector pin on the sear bar in good solvent and make sure that it is functioning freely...
