Fellow Luger afficianados,
A friend recently gave me a 1970's Mauser that is in pristine condition apart from what appears to be white enamel model paint on the serrated front sight. I did a search here and found tangential references concerning paint sticks used to highlight stamped markings, but want to ask advice before I try to clean up the front sight on this gal (I don't want to wreck the bluing). Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Michael |

Michael,
Try WD-40 and a brass wire brush. A bore brush will work. Mike C.

Try the brass brush, but try a hard toothbrush first... with the proper solvent a toothbrush may be all you need. The aerosol type of brake cleaner is very rough on paints and may remove the paint without any kind of brush.
Don't use any kind of solvent with the grips installed. They should not get oil soaked or experience any kind of chemical distress... remember they are over 60 years old if they are original WW2 grips, and should be considered fragile. The '70s Mauser grips should also be handled with care to make sure they DO last for 60 plus years.
