Default An FXO orphan child salvaged by GT

Almost 2 years ago, my dear friend GT salvaged an FXO type magazine for me that I had purchased from eBay.

When I found the listing the photos were dark so I couldn't tell that the mag bottom had been crudely replaced with a homemade wooden bottom. It was an UGLY bit of work and the magazine tube had been twisted by the previous owner so that it wouldn't even enter more than halfway into a Luger frame.

GT used his excellent magazine tools to properly reshape this mag tube so that it entered and slipped out of both of my Lugers with ease.

What he couldn't do was replace the "half moon" shaped pieces that the previous backyard mechanic had cut out of the bottom of the tube so that his bastard wooden bottom would have a place for the knobs...

So GT did the next best thing... he fitted the modified tube with one of his excellent unmarked aluminum bottoms.

The result is that it is the finest shooter magazine that I own. It has never caused a hangup feeding either of my Lugers.

I just wanted to show off GT's great mag bottom and the quality of his work. You will notice that in the vicinity of the knobs there is a small triangle of missing metal on the tube. This was the work of the previous owner who mangle this magazine... GT recovered this magazine and it will be serving my grandchildren long after I am gone.

Thanks GT! I know I have thanked you before, but I wanted the whole Luger community to see your excellent work.

Kind regards,

John

Default fxo modification...

Hi John, It's nice to see past works still in use! The fxo shell with the modifications yours received is indeed about as good as I can do... I like the fxo mags, but most do not like the way they protrude from the bottom of the pistol with the un-angled bottom.. I prefer the round coil spring also, when it's of the correct tension of course.. Thanks John, for the nice review and kind words... I have a couple of projects going right now for forum members, I can only hope they are a successful as yours turned out ... ... It was great fun! Best to you John, and thanks again... til...lat'r...GT

Jerry,
You forgot the rusty file and 3-penny nail! Seriously, Gerry is one of the nicest, most talented and honest individuals you will ever meet. He is a credit to the hobby and an honor to call friend. One of the great people you meet on the forum (Jerry Burney ain't bad either, but that is another topic).

Default visit!

Hi Jerry! The only problem with the day you visited was it ended way, way, too soon! While you were wondering how does this guy make Luger mag bottoms, I was wondering how'en the hell does that guy made great P.08 holsters!!! We share a common bond... It is certainly not with out cost or effort! Or mutual respect..... Best to you Jerry, til...lat'r...GT
