1916 DWM Ammunition

Greetings!
Can someone please tell me a good brand of 9mm current ammunition to purchase for firing in a 1916 DWM? Is the shell casing the same length as original ammunition?

Most people stick with the Winchester white box. Just don't use hollow points or flat nosed bullets. Stick with a good fully jacketed round nose bullet. 115g will work, but I've heard they prefer the 124g weight bullets. The shell casing are the same.

Hi:

A lot will depend on the condition of your recoil and magazine springs. If one or both of these is worn or out of spec., you will be in for a jamomatic Luger.

To really get the total potential out of a Luger, you have to reload for it, as none of the current ammo is within original spec.

Thanks for the great info guys! By the way, the takedown lever was not serial numbered on my 1916 DWM mentioned here. I attached an image of the lever that came with it. It does have some sort of inspector's stamp. Were all takedown levers also serial numbered to the Lugers? This was a vet bring back that was not messed with. It could be a period replacement.

Mike,

It is likely that your inspector stamped but unnumbered takedown lever is an armorer's replacement spare.

Thanks again guys for the great info! The takedown lever is the only part not matching. The grips match as well. Would a mismatched lever detract greatly from the value? At least it is an original! This is my 1916 DWM. First one!
