Recently I lucked into a pair of 1903/1908 pistols.
The first was a nickeled .380 with real ivory grips. The second was a blued .32 with real mother-of-pearl grips. Neither set of grips had medallions. To my surprise and delight, when I removed the pearl grips I saw they had the tell-tale wood blocks and screws that give them away as Colt originals. (I am no expert, just repeating what I have been told.) The MOP grips went from the blued .32 to the nickeled .380 in a big hurry. They look great and this was the idea all along. The ivory grips look great and age appropriate but do not have the wood blocks. Should ivory grips also have the wood blocks the MOP grips have? How can I tell original no-medallion Colt ivory grips from after-market ivory grips? (They are real ivory. I checked.) Also, one of the MOP grips is missing one screw for attachment of the wooden block. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement screw?
