Did I make a mistake?

I walked away from a Luger for sale today, wondering if I should have bought it. It was a 1939 police banner with matching #1 magazine. Condition was absolutely mint in and out, but just to be practical I'll call it 99.9%. Asking price was $1850 and absolutely firm. A really mouth watering piece, but I thought it was priced not too high, but way at the top value. Should I have bought it? Incidentally, it's still available.
