How rare is the optical sight for a Maxim MG?
I've been searching for my second attempt at a first Luger (was burned badly by my first purchase but was able to get rid of it) and I came across a neat item today. It's a WWI German optical sight (like a tiny periscope) that is for the Maxim 08 Machine Gun. It has a dial on the left side and a leather case that comes with it and it fits inside perfectly. I've never seen one of these before, but I'm still new to the game. How rare is one of these things and what do they normally go for? It's worn and the fellow said it was missing a rubber eyepiece.
I really like it. |

Hi Gary,
I think you haven't gotten a response because no one knows what the value would be. Something like this would only appeal to a certain catagory of collector. Mainly as a conversation piece. The eye cup missing, means that it's not complete and original, and getting an original replacement would be next to impossible. I wouldn't think that the value would be all that high. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong, but I don't think that I would be tempted to pay a whole lot for it. If you like it? That's all that matters and if you want it, go for it. Ron
